Appreciation Post ~ Olay Essentials Beauty Fluid

Processed with VSCO with a5 preset

Today I felt like writing an appreciation post for one of my most favorite and go-to product ever.

Moisturizer wise Olay Essentials Beauty Fluid – Moisturizing Day Fluid for normal/combination skin is the only one I have stuck to for years. There was a time when I would use it on and off but now it’s the first thing I reach out for in the morning after I am done with washing my face. I got into the habit of using it because of my mum. She is an avid Olay moisturizers user since the very start and her skin is super soft due to it till date.

Olay Essentials Beauty Fluid is an extremely light weight formula. It goes on the skin effortlessly and sinks in super quick. It leaves the skin soft, glowing and hydrated for hours. A coin size amount is enough to work its magic.

Here are some ways I like using it in my daily routine:

Home facials – I like to take two coin size amount of it and massage it all over my face. It softens the skin which makes it ideal for an exfoliating session right afterwards.

With facial oils – I like to mix a few drops of any facial oil I am using with a coin size amount of Olay Essential Beauty Fluid and massage it all over my face before going to bed. I wake up with super soft and smooth skin and lighter face marks the next day.

Primer Alternative – I have used this beauty fluid as a primer for quite a while and still do. Its non greasy formula is always great in giving me a smooth canvas (I am being fancy so read ‘skin’) for my makeup later.

With Foundation – Sometimes when I don’t want any foundation on but also want to blur out any acne or scars I take a pea size amount of my foundation and mix it with a coin size amount of Olay Essential Beauty Fluid and apply it all over the face. This works wonderfully as it achieves the blurring effect, gives my face a very no makeup look and I feel like there is nothing at all on my skin.

No Nighttime Routine – when I am not following any nighttime skincare routine or am being too lazy, I just apply it. It provides my skin with hydration overnight and the next morning my skin is soft and supple.

I love incorporating Olay Essentials Beauty Fluid in my daily routine any way I can because the end result is always marvelous. I can never suggest this moisturizer enough. It is one of the best multifunctional products that are out there in the market. Give it a go yourself. I am sure you won’t be disappointed. 🙂

REVIEW ~ Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge

RT MCS (1) ( with VSCO with a5 preset

Image: Left – before it’s damp || Right – after it’s damp

Beauty blender and sponges have been in the market from a while but I never really cared about them. I thought they are just another way for the cosmetic companies to draw us in. I gave in around October because my curiosity wouldn’t let me be. I decided on Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge and damn did I choose well.

It’s made out of foam and has a flat surface on the top for the whole face and a pointed tip at the end for corner of eyes and nose.

So far it’s only available in orange color.

How to Prepare the Sponge

The best way to use it is by damping it. Just take it under the tap of running water. Let it soak the water and then squeeze it out a couple of time. You will notice the sponge gets bigger in size. Yes, that’s what it is supposed to do, don’t worry. Squeeze out all the excess water before using it.

It’s not necessary to be very gentle with squeezing the water out but I would suggest be gentle enough that you don’t end up tearing it apart or getting a mini heart attack thinking that you did.

You can use the sponge dry too but I have noticed that doesn’t give the best finish.

The application is similar to the brush. Once it’s wet (or dry), you can take your foundation as you normally do with a brush; put it on your hand first to warm it, or dot it over the face or take it on the flat surface of the sponge. It doesn’t matter which method you go for. Then start to dab, stipple or rub in the foundation like you would do with a brush. Use the flat surface for flat areas and the tip to reach the corners.

I don’t prefer using the sponge dry but if you do, the method is the same though I would really suggest you not to take the foundation on the sponge and then apply it on the face.

Damp: It gives a well blended and flawless finish. I have used it with both liquid and cream foundation and also with a foundation that doesn’t give you more than two minutes before it sets in.

Dry: It gives a good finish but you might find some streaks if you don’t use the sponge right as paint brush motions. That’s why I prefer the damp method. It’s absolutely fuss free and you don’t even need to be careful with how you go about in on the face, lol. It does the job for you. #LazyGalAlert

After You’re Done Using It

This sponge takes time to dry after you’re done with your foundation. Keep it out to dry completely before storing it back.

It can be used with pretty much any product making it a multi-tasker. It’s perfect with cream contouring, blush, highlighter, anything really. I have read a post where the blogger does her complete makeup with it and the final result was full blended and perfectly done face. I think it was a sponge challenge or something. I can’t seem to find the post now or I would have linked it up. Anyway, you can YouTube it and you will find a gazillion videos on it.

Shelf Life

It has a very short shelf life. It’s suggested to change it after every three to four months. I am pretty sure none of us will be listening to this suggestion.

I have noticed that it retains some of the water after you damp it and no matter how much you squeeze it, it doesn’t come out. I think it drinks up a little of the foundation too. Not too much but enough to stain its surface. I believe this will make us change our sponge after a while lol.

What I Don’t Know About

I really need to learn how to clean this sponge because as you can notice so far I am not able to take out the foundation stains and yes that’s driving me insane. Honestly, I didn’t get much to look around the internet on how to do it. If you have any easy methods please help a sister in need and leave them in the comments below.

I am absolutely in love with the Miracle Complexion Sponge. Before using the sponge I thought its okay if the foundation goes a little streaky on the face but after using it I know that’s not supposed to happen. I am highly recommending it to everyone. Give it a go and I am sure you won’t be disappointed.

PS. Thanks a ton to Makeup Medley Muscat for getting me the sponge. ❤

Until next time people,

Byeee xx

MAC Lip Pencils Review And Why You Should Get Them

DSC06845 label

DSC06846 l

Makeup is an expensive hobby to keep especially if you love trying new stuff like me. I would invest in basic things (according to me) like foundation, blush, lipstick and kohl, but if you ask me to invest in things like mascara, eyeliner, lip pencils, lip gloss, bronzer I would be a little reluctant. But give me a product that’s a multi-tasker and then we’re talking.

A few blog posts back I mentioned getting MAC Lipstick Ruby Woo as a present and how I would never buy one because of the price tag. RO 9.275 for one lipstick, seriously? Not happening. Fast forward to a few months and my hopeless attempts at applying Ruby Woo perfectly on my not so defined lips. I had no idea how to make it work and the idea of getting a lip liner wasn’t something that would happen with me because lazy AF. I don’t use a hair conditioner after shampooing my hair, what makes you believe I would use a lip liner to define my lips before I apply a lipstick. No I don’t care my lips need them. I would never go that extra mile for anything. Also, they are always almost the same price of a lip stick which seems unfair to me.

Ruby Woo lip pencil hit the market a bit back. I really wanted the lipstick to look good on me, so I went to the store, swatched it, and bought it. MAC Lip Pencil in Ruby Woo has the same deep red shade as the lipstick. The pencil has a defined tip and glides on the lip’s line perfectly to give you your desired result. Putting on lipstick after that has been an easy peasy task. It looks so well done, ha. The best thing about it is its creamy formula. Some days I use it as a lipstick if Ruby Woo lipstick is being too dry.

My MAC Lip Pencil love affair didn’t end there. Last year just around autumn/winter, I swatched a few lip liners from MAC and there were some brown shades I really liked. I was kind of sure I would get them but I have been obsessed with bold lips recently and I ended up buying MAC Lip Pencil in Beet. It’s a berry toned/magenta shade and I absolutely love it. It has the same creamy formula and because I don’t really have a lipstick to go with it yet, I apply it all over my lips and it looks fab.

Now a lip pencil range that has amazing nude and vibrant shades, is creamy and can be worked on as a lipsticks too, is available and you don’t avail the opportunity to use it, would be a very sad thing, really! Do I say it’s worth the money? It so is.

Let me know in the comments below if you try some or if you have a favorite one already. Also, I would love it if you suggest some other lip pencils to me. I heard Maybelline came out with a new range. Need to check them myself.

Thanks for reading, guys! 🙂

The Queen of All Red Lipsticks ~ MAC Ruby Woo

DSC06610 la

20150515_191456-1MAC Ruby Woo ( (2)

I love a good lipstick but I don’t wear them at all. I am always very self conscious when I have them on in public, which is very unlike me, so I usually don’t bother with them. There is just one shade I can’t resist – Red. I love trying different red lipsticks from everywhere but I never found any that would beat my Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in 527 Lady Red.

A couple of months back I went to MAC and that’s when I saw Ruby Woo. This is not a small name in the makeup industry. This lipstick has a cult following and is considered a must-have in anyone’s collection. My encounter with it was instant love and I marked it on my ‘I am never buying this’ wish list. The reason was simple; at RO 9.250, I could not justify the purchase as I would never use it. Though that did not stop me from crying about it to everyone I know.

My birthday came in May which was a pathetic affair. All my family was busy with work and couldn’t even make it to dinner and I had to spend it alone with my sister-in-law. She was trying so hard to cheer me up but nothing worked. I was feeling miserable and that’s when she surprised me with a pretty black bag from MAC and guess what it held – RUBY WOO. I WAS SO HAPPY!!!!

Ruby Woo is a part of MAC Retro Matte Finish range and comes in their standard black bullet packaging. It has a very pleasant vanilla smell and taste. It has the most beautiful blues tones which makes it the deepest red there ever can be. Its lasting power is good as long as you are not eating or drinking. The best thing about this lipstick is that it goes fabulously with all skin tones making it an instant classic.

It just has one problem; its formula is very drying so it drags on your lips when you apply it. It’s not that big of a problem but for some it can be. It is nothing you can’t work out. I have noticed that if I am taking care of my lips which mean they are well scrubbed or I am using lip balm every day, it glides on without dragging. But if you are a lazy bum, that I am mostly, and lip prep session is never in your routine, this will be a bummer. I am linking a post written by Fatima from Lipsticks and Coffee. She recently wrote about Ruby Woo and has a good tip to share. Click here to read it! 🙂

If you are into red lips you need to buy Ruby Woo. If you’ve swatched it, I assure you there is no dupe that would ever satisfy you just as much as the original. It is such a unique color and deserves all the hype it gets.

I want to thank my sister-in-law so very much for this gorgeous present. If it were to me I know it would have still been on that wish list but thanks to her, I own it now and rock it (ft. in my bedroom with DJ Snapchat).

REVIEW ~ Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 Hour Nude Foundation with SPF 20

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 presetProcessed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

I have been crying about Muscat’s hot weather in almost every post since April and let me just do that once again. Our summer was horrendous this year reaching 50+ degrees. It was too hot to even breathe outside or have a comfortable life inside the house. I wilted away all these months cocooned indoors whereas all I really wanted this summer was some quality beach time. boo hoo!!!

With such ‘amazing’ weather came the unpredictable makeup issue. I thought I had it under control because my skincare routine was going great and my Maybelline Fit Me foundation was doing amazing until my face became an oil zone – literally. My makeup was being such a problem and my foundation would just never stay on for more than two hours. That’s when I decided to try a new drugstore foundation and I had Rimmel in my mind. I wasn’t sure which one of their ranges to go for because I tried some of their foundations and wasn’t much impressed. Then one day I visited Top Note in Lulu Hypermarket Seeb and saw a great deal on Rimmel Lasting Finish range and bought it on a whim.

Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 Hr Nude SPF 20 comes in a round transparent glass bottle with a round white slanted cap that has the Rimmel logo on top. It has a pump red in color to extract the product. Pumps are always a plus with me because they make getting the product out of the bottle easy and hygienic. I doubt the bottle is as sturdy as Maybelline Fit Me but then again I did not get a chance to throw it on the tiled floor of my room yet (and I really hope it never comes to that).

Rimmel Lasting Finish is one foundation that does everything it claims. It has a medium coverage that can be built up; a process that I really don’t prefer with any of my foundations because I don’t like the constant reminder that something is on my face. It is of creamy consistency, a satin texture and its formula ensures your skin is hydrated under all that makeup. It is light weight and blends effortlessly. It blurs the spots but not completely so it seems like you don’t have much of anything on. The best thing however about this foundation is that it does NOT budge in hot weather. The line up there that says its ‘sweat, heat and humidity proof’ is very true. I have had it on for more than 8 hours in all that 50+ heat and it stayed and so did all of my makeup. A very big thumbs up to Rimmel for achieving this very impossible task.

I have it in shade 100 ivory. One full pump of product alone is enough to cover all of your face and neck. I take two small pumps of it and that does it for me. It applies well with both a brush and fingers. Its creamy consistency gives you some time to fix it before it settles in completely. It has a strong smell to it that takes a little getting used to but it doesn’t stay for long after you have applied it. I have not noticed any transfer of product while using it so that’s always great. Another thumbs up, Rimmel, my friend.

Super Tip: if you are applying this foundation with a brush, make sure you wash it every week because it can take some time to get it off those bristles especially if your brush hasn’t been washed for two or more weeks. #guilty

There are a few things I want to let you guys know. Give this foundation a little time to settle in if you have fair/desi skin. When I started using it I would freak out every time because I would find it too white on my face. I have fair skin but there is no way I would ever want to leave the house looking like I just dipped my face in a huge bowl of white powder. I wanted to return it after the first time I tried it but after using it for a few times I realized it takes a little time for this foundation to settle on your face and then it’s all awesome. So 10 to 15 minutes and it will look fabulous. Another thing, they have very limited range of shades so keep your fingers crossed when you go to pick yourself a bottle. If you really love the formula and are not a lazy bum like me, I would suggest buying two shades and mixing them to create your shade.

Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 Hour Nude Foundation has been my summer savior and I love it for that. The weather is changing here in somewhat autumn now. I am still enjoying this foundation and looking forward to how well it will work in the winter if it gets cold.

Until next time,

Ciao! 🙂

FOTD ~ Autumn Edition

I don’t do Face of the Day posts often because I don’t usually switch up my makeup that much but with the slight change in Muscat’s weather and lots of autumnal feels coming my way through YouTube and Instagram, I was feeling excited and decided to do my makeup a bit differently. Most of the products I am using are stuff I bought recently and haven’t spoken about yet on the blog but they will be up soon, doncha worry! 😀

Starting off, I have been trying a primer. It is Rimmel Lasting Finish Primer. I haven’t tried any before so I don’t really have much to compare it with. I use it before applying my foundation and I have noticed it does keep most of my makeup in place for a long time. I don’t wear it that often but whenever I do, it been a good experience.

Next is a new foundation I’ve been trying. It is Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 Hr Nude with SPF 20. This one has been amazing on my skin. As the summer was horrendous this year and my face was basically being an oil zone, this foundation gave me a medium to full coverage and lasted as the name suggests for a whole day without budging. Our autumn is going to be summer only but a little less sweaty so I am sticking with this foundation. I take a pump of it and spread it all over my face using my fingers tips. I am being super lazy so my face brush is getting a bit of time off this season.

I am not doing anything special with the cheeks except bronzing them. I have picked up my favorite Bourjois Delice de Poudre Bronzing Powder in shade 51. It brings such a radiant glow to the face. Bronzers send off such autumnal vibes and in my opinion this one is the best so far. I use MAC 168 to do my cheeks and later take it up my forehead and down my jaw line. This is perhaps my most favorite step and this brush from MAC is meant for it.

I picked up NYX Show Girl eye shadow recently and that’s all I have been using this past week. I love it so much. It is such a beautiful shade of copper and it makes my eyes look so pretty. I use my MAC 217 and swipe the color all over my lid and that’s about as much as I can do with an eye shadow or an eye shadow brush. 😛

I am skipping mascara and eyeliner these days and have been using just a kohl liner for my waterline.

Finally for lips I am going bold and what better bold than red. My sister in law got me MAC Ruby Woo for my birthday (I am sorry I haven’t blogged about it in 4 months) and I have been using it on end ever since. I doubt I am ever taking it off.

What makeup products are you using this season? Let me know in the comments below! 🙂

PS – Please don’t feel shy in commenting and talking. I love to read what you guys are up to too. 🙂

REVIEW ~ Sigma 3DHD Kabuki Brush

Processed with VSCOcam with a5 preset

I bought this brush in January and blogged about it in February saying I will do a review very soon thinking I would be ready to write about it in a few weeks time. Oh, how wrong I was. 😛

3DHD Kabuki is an absolutely amazing foundation brush from Sigma. It has a medium sized round handle. It has a unique shape of two wedges and a ridge that helps it to apply product in unreachable areas of the face like the corner of the nose and around the eyes in one go. It has soft, densely packed bristles that move around the face smoothly. It comes in several colors; Pink, White, Black and Black/Rose Gold. When I bought it, it was available in Pink, White and Black only. I really wanted it in Rose Gold.

This brush is a quick applicator and it works with all types of foundation. I tried it with Maybelline Fit Me foundation that is of loose liquid consistency and it worked well with it. I then tried it with Rimmel Lasting Finish 25hr Nude Foundation that has creamy consistency and it worked great with it too. I also tried it with my Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation SPF 15 which doesn’t give you much time to set it but this brush did an amazing job with it too. It spreads the product quickly on the face and goes around those strange corners in one go so you don’t have to reach for them again and you also don’t have to pull crazy faces to reach around the corner of your nose.

I use my 3DHD Kabuki to apply foundation in a to and fro motion like a paint brush. I apply foundation on my face and then use the brush. I tried pumping the foundation on the brush and then applying it on the face but it didn’t work out that well for me.  This brush does take a little time to getting used to but once you get a hang of it, it’s great. I am now able to easily buff my foundation in, stipple the product on or like i say ‘painting the face’ lol.

I give this brush a deep cleanse every week if I have used it 4-5 times. If I have used it 2-3 times hardly I will do the cleansing after every two week. You get to know when your brush needs cleansing. It starts feeling a little stiff or rough. It’s important that you clean it on a regular or else the product will start settling in the bristles and it will become very hard to get it out. I delayed cleansing it the last time while I was using it quite often and the end result was it took me several washes to take the product out and it left a bit of stain from the foundation. I am hoping to get rid of it in the next wash. There is no fuss relating drying, getting back in shape or bristle fall out. It’s been very good to my skin without damaging it or being harsh in any way. Its bristles are fabulous.

I am very satisfied with Sigma 3DHD Kabuki brush. I believe it is one of the best investments I did. If you own it or are planning to buy it then just remember to take good care of it and I am pretty sure it will last you a very long time. 🙂

BEAUTY || Lipsticks To Lust Over – Bobbi Brown Edition

When it comes to lip products, I usually don’t get much action there but slowly and gradually I am trying to change that. I have been visiting a lot of high end counters lately with Bobbi Brown being one of my favorites. Here are my three picks of some of their best lip colors.

Bobbi Brown

1- Carnation #12

Carnation is a part of Bobbi Brown creamy/semi matte lipstick range. It comes in their luxe golden and black packaging. You know with the gorgeous Bobbi Brown printed on it. ❤

Carnation lipstick is a peachy pink color which goes somewhat nude on my lips. It is highly pigmented and gives a full coverage. It glides on well and has a smooth texture. It is light but I felt if you build it, it gets a little heavy. A very good pick if you’re looking for an everyday/nude lipstick.

2- Cherry Pink #6

Cherry Pink is a part of Bobbi Brown Sheer Lip Color range. It is a berry toned lipstick. The formula is very light. It glides on well too and has a very glossy texture. This is perhaps the only lip color that I could call my perfect nude as my lips are kind of dark and this lip color goes amazingly with it. It screams ‘my lips but better’ to me, ha.

3- Hollywood Red #94

How exactly can I leave Bobbi Brown without finding a Red lip color and falling in love with it? Hollywood Red is the kind of red I love – extremely bloody. It is a fuchsia based red lipstick that has a creamy/glossy texture that glides on well too. This one also comes in their luxe packaging and is a sight for sore eyes. If you are into rich colors or love red lipsticks, you need to have this in your collection.

I really want to say one of these lipsticks is my favorite but I can’t because all three of them are just so darn good!! Let me know which one’s your favorite lip color from Bobbi Brown. I need to try more from BB. 😀

Have a good day ya’ll! 🙂

Review ~ Essence Get Big Lashes Volume Curl Mascara

Before I begin, I can’t seem to recall when the last time I used Mascara was. It was a good couple of years ago and I was totally into the hardcore Max Factor and Maybelline ones at that time. Fast forward to 2015 and with a pair of immensely sensitive eyes, when I started getting into makeup and buying eye products I was in tears, literally. Anything too strong would immediately make my eyes water. I was eyeing quite a lot of Max Factor Mascaras but one swatch of them and I knew they weren’t going to work for me plus wassup with the crispy lashes man? Like seriously? (I am talking like an old woman I know but please bear with me…) After almost giving up, I ended up at Essence Cosmetics counter. I saw this pretty bottle, picked it up, paid for it and left. Best.decision.ever.

Essence Get Big Lashes Volume Curl Mascara comes in a salmon pink cylinder shaped bottle. It has a curved fiber brush and almost tightly packed bristles. The curved fiber brush provides the lashes with a perfect dramatic curl. The tightly packed bristles help in giving the lashes the most volume. The formula is thick but doesn’t weigh down your lashes. It also doesn’t make them go crispy after a while of applying. The color is darkest black that gives the eyelashes an intense look. It has a similar scent that most mascara’s have but isn’t irritating. It didn’t sting my eyes.

It is not waterproof but it ends up staying on for a good 4-6 hours. It doesn’t smudge and doesn’t lose its curl that quickly unless you are sweating like a sinner in church. You don’t need any fancy eye makeup remover for it. It comes off easily with water itself. I carry it around in my bag and I have no complains about any slippage. The packaging is sturdyyy.

If you’re someone who is just beginning with makeup and don’t know which one to pick I would recommend Essence Get Big Lashes Volume Curl Mascara. Not only is it easy on the eyes but it also gives your eyes the most gorgeous effect.

Essence Cosmetics have a range of other mascaras too and I can’t wait to try them all now. *excited*

PS. I did try to take a picture with the mascara in action but it was an epic fail. I shall soon learn how to take pictures with mascara on, don’t you worry.

PSS. I get asked a lot where I get Essence product from. I get mine mostly from Carrefour Hypermarket in Muscat City Center, Seeb. Their counter is also available in:

Carrefour Hypermarket – Qurum City Center

The Sultan Center – Qurum

Vacha’s Hypermarket – Al Azaiba

And just in case anyone is wondering, here is Essence Cosmetics Oman official Facebook page.

Cya guys later!

REVIEW ~ The Body Shop Seaweed Clarifying Night Treatment

I was eyeing this product from a while but was too broke to get a full size bottle. A few months back I was browsing The Body Shop aisle when I discovered they did a mini size– 15 ml – of the product too for just RO 2.400. How could I resist? It went to my basket right away.

The Body Shop Seaweed Clarifying Night Treatment for Combination to Oily Skin comes in a round transparent plastic bottle. The formula is gel and you have a pump to extract it. It has the same seaweed smell that all the other product of this range has which is pleasant and not too sea-ish. I usually take about two to three pumps of this product, one for each cheek and the rest for forehead, nose, chin and jaw line.

I have experimented quite a lot with this product as I had trouble with it initially. I have been breaking out a lot since last year and it kind of hasn’t stopped at all. I was using The Body Shop Vitamin E Serum in Oil (Click for my complete review here) to minimize the breakouts. It works wonders on my skin. So when I first started trailing out Seaweed Clarifying Night Treatment my routine was something like this for the first two to three days; cleanse, moisturize, Vitamin E Serum in Oil and then Seaweed Clarifying Nigh Treatment. It did not work out for me at all. I didn’t see any results. I didn’t give up because I thought the oil and gel combo wasn’t working well together. I tried another routine; cleanse, moisturize and Seaweed Clarifying Night Treatment. That didn’t work out too. I was very disappointed and thought this product isn’t going to work for me at all.

Then one night I just cleansed my skin and applied Seaweed Clarifying Night Treatment right away. The next morning I woke up with a clearer complexion and minimized acne. I was over the moon. Since then that’s how I have been using this Night Treatment. It works so well alone. You don’t need to fuss around with other products. This one’s for all my lazy girls who dread a night time routine but do want a clear complexion and skin.

I love this product and seeing how I am almost done with 15 ml bottle I think it’s time I get the full sized one.
