A Bit of Shopping

The New Things + First Impression #2

Processed with VSCO with a5 preset

I recently did a spot of shopping and picked a few things I wanted from a while.

1 – Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara – Waterproof (RO 6.800)

I mentioned this in my last wish list. I wanted to buy new mascara and and settled for Maybelline Lash Sensational because of the raving reviews it’s been getting. I got it on offer from Center Point. You get Maybelline’s Lasting Drama 24H Automatic Gel Pencil for free when you purchase Lash Sensational mascara.

I have used it a couple of times. It’s truly waterproof and doesn’t come off from normal cleanser. I think you would need a proper eye makeup remover. I found it a little clumpy but it settles after a while. I am still testing it out and am undecided how I really feel about this product but hopefully by the time I do a review I would have a clearer idea.

2 – Real Techniques Deep Cleansing Gel for Makeup Brushes (RO 8.000)

Yes!!! I finally have it!!! *happy dance*

I have been after this cleanser from a bit and I am so happy to finally have it. I tested it just once and I am very impressed by the result. It didn’t even take me two minutes to clean my brushes and they came out squeaky clean, super soft and no shedding. I am going to try it a couple more times over the weeks and will report back. Though let me just tell you guys, I am already in love with it.

I would like to give a huge shout out to ‘Makeup Medley Muscat’ for arranging this cleanser for me. Thank you so much!! If you’re from Muscat and are looking for someone who can get you not easily accessible brands and products, I would recommend MMM. They are really friendly, helpful and suggestions are always welcomed. I am linking their Facebook page and Instagram below. Let them know if you’re visiting their page because of my blog. 🙂

Hair Care

REVIEW ~ Wella Pro Series Heat & Shine (Heat Protector)

Wella

Back Story (Skip it and read below if you’re here for just the review)

I had wavy hair since I was a kid and a bit of blow dry for special occasions always felt like a treat. My dad would do it for me. ❤ Then I left using them completely because who really cared at age 9? Later in my teens I discovered straighteners and I thought I found the cure to everything in life. I would straighten my hair every chance I got and to be honest, I had no idea about the adverse effect it would have. It was not until my hair was severely damaged by all the heat that I realized what I had put my hair through. This led to a lot of google searching and that’s when I found out about heat protectors. Now starts the hard part; where to get one from. Up until 2014, shopping or spending wasn’t my thing. I would either spend too much on stuff I would never use or not spend at all for months which means I really sucked at shopping.

It took me a while to realize we don’t really have any hair protector in the usual hypermarkets. Some time back I spotted one from a company called Kera in Carrefour Hypermarket’s hair care aisle. I didn’t buy it right away but the next time I went to purchase it, it was gone and there was nothing similar from any other brand. I was so disappointed and pissed at myself. A few months back I was at Carrefour Hypermarket again and that’s when I spotted Wella Heat protector. Now I don’t learn by making a mistake once, I like to make it several times, just to be sure, you know. I did not buy it and the next time I went, it was gone. The time after that I spotted a bottle, I grabbed it and rushed to the counter before I got tempted to repeat my usual behavior.

Main Thing

Wella Pro Series 2 Phase Spray Heat & Shine comes in a round red plastic bottle. It has a faint smell similar to all other Wella products. Sometimes it’s pleasant and other times not so much. The product is very light weight. The bottle’s nozzle sprays a generous amount with every pump. I use about three to four and sometimes five to six pumps of it taking it on the top and some after sectioning the hair. Sometimes after spraying I massage my hair a bit hoping the spray would reach any parts it hasn’t already.

Claims:

Heat Protection

Extra Shine

Results:

I have noticed no damage to my hair every time I use Wella Heat & Shine before any heat equipment.

My hair is quite damaged and rough but whenever I apply Wella Heat & Shine my hair goes soft and smooth.

Usually my hair starts turning back to waves in an hour or so but now they stay in place. Super like!

I feel a significant volume in my otherwise limp hair when I use it. Another like!

The first time I tried it, I noticed a clear shine in my hair and it was super awesome but after that I didn’t see any noticeable shine again.

I feel like my hair goes a little too frizzy after a while though so boo-hoo to that

~

I would conclude that it is a fairly good heat protector. Though the frizzing is annoying but as long as my hair is not getting damaged further I wouldn’t abandon this product and will keep looking for other heat protectors too.

Do you use a heat protector? Which one’s your favorite? Let me know in the comments below! 🙂

Skincare

REVIEW ~ Clean & Clear Deep Action Refreshing Gel Cleanser (Oil-Free)

Processed with VSCO with a5 preset

Clean & Clear is a drugstore skincare brand. I used to love it as a teenager. Whatever minimum skincare routine I had, it was all from there. As I grew up my skin’s needs changed and I started trying other brands. Recently when my Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash Pink Grapefruit Facial Cleanser (Click here to read my review on it) was almost finishing I got a little panicked. I usually get backups for all my products well in time but this time around with cleanser I had no idea which one to get next. I thought to repurchase Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit Cleanser only but on my way to get it I spotted a gel cleanser by Clean & Clear and after much contemplation picked it up instead.

Clean & Clear Deep Action Refreshing Gel Cleanser (Oil-Free) comes in a 150 ml transparent bottle and has a purple pump. The product is of gel consistency and green in color. Its smell reminds me of detergent and it’s strong.

This cleanser works really nice. I find it gentle on my skin. I use it most mornings before my face wash. It instantly cleans the face of any oiliness or product from last night leaving a pretty clean slate for my face wash. The best thing about it is the way it tingles the skin. It feels so nice and cool. It’s like a jolt of freshness.

It is pretty great with removing makeup too. I don’t purchase makeup removers so any cleanser that helps taking my makeup off completely is always well appreciated. However it doesn’t take off waterproof mascara. I have also noticed if I use it alone sometimes, my skin gets very dry. But as long as I am applying a moisturizer after it, I am all good.

If you are a teenager, this would be a great product for you to use after school or any time in between the day whenever you feel your skin has a lot of dirt or oiliness on it after a game session or some similar activity. It works nicely for adults too. I use it anytime I feel my skin has gone unbearably oily.

I got this cleanser from Lulu Hypermarket Seeb. It was for RO 1.890. Compared to any other drugstore brand, Clean & Clear’s cleanser is half the price and I think it’s pretty good.

REVIEW ~ Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 Hour Nude Foundation with SPF 20

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 presetProcessed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

I have been crying about Muscat’s hot weather in almost every post since April and let me just do that once again. Our summer was horrendous this year reaching 50+ degrees. It was too hot to even breathe outside or have a comfortable life inside the house. I wilted away all these months cocooned indoors whereas all I really wanted this summer was some quality beach time. boo hoo!!!

With such ‘amazing’ weather came the unpredictable makeup issue. I thought I had it under control because my skincare routine was going great and my Maybelline Fit Me foundation was doing amazing until my face became an oil zone – literally. My makeup was being such a problem and my foundation would just never stay on for more than two hours. That’s when I decided to try a new drugstore foundation and I had Rimmel in my mind. I wasn’t sure which one of their ranges to go for because I tried some of their foundations and wasn’t much impressed. Then one day I visited Top Note in Lulu Hypermarket Seeb and saw a great deal on Rimmel Lasting Finish range and bought it on a whim.

Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 Hr Nude SPF 20 comes in a round transparent glass bottle with a round white slanted cap that has the Rimmel logo on top. It has a pump red in color to extract the product. Pumps are always a plus with me because they make getting the product out of the bottle easy and hygienic. I doubt the bottle is as sturdy as Maybelline Fit Me but then again I did not get a chance to throw it on the tiled floor of my room yet (and I really hope it never comes to that).

Rimmel Lasting Finish is one foundation that does everything it claims. It has a medium coverage that can be built up; a process that I really don’t prefer with any of my foundations because I don’t like the constant reminder that something is on my face. It is of creamy consistency, a satin texture and its formula ensures your skin is hydrated under all that makeup. It is light weight and blends effortlessly. It blurs the spots but not completely so it seems like you don’t have much of anything on. The best thing however about this foundation is that it does NOT budge in hot weather. The line up there that says its ‘sweat, heat and humidity proof’ is very true. I have had it on for more than 8 hours in all that 50+ heat and it stayed and so did all of my makeup. A very big thumbs up to Rimmel for achieving this very impossible task.

I have it in shade 100 ivory. One full pump of product alone is enough to cover all of your face and neck. I take two small pumps of it and that does it for me. It applies well with both a brush and fingers. Its creamy consistency gives you some time to fix it before it settles in completely. It has a strong smell to it that takes a little getting used to but it doesn’t stay for long after you have applied it. I have not noticed any transfer of product while using it so that’s always great. Another thumbs up, Rimmel, my friend.

Super Tip: if you are applying this foundation with a brush, make sure you wash it every week because it can take some time to get it off those bristles especially if your brush hasn’t been washed for two or more weeks. #guilty

There are a few things I want to let you guys know. Give this foundation a little time to settle in if you have fair/desi skin. When I started using it I would freak out every time because I would find it too white on my face. I have fair skin but there is no way I would ever want to leave the house looking like I just dipped my face in a huge bowl of white powder. I wanted to return it after the first time I tried it but after using it for a few times I realized it takes a little time for this foundation to settle on your face and then it’s all awesome. So 10 to 15 minutes and it will look fabulous. Another thing, they have very limited range of shades so keep your fingers crossed when you go to pick yourself a bottle. If you really love the formula and are not a lazy bum like me, I would suggest buying two shades and mixing them to create your shade.

Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 Hour Nude Foundation has been my summer savior and I love it for that. The weather is changing here in somewhat autumn now. I am still enjoying this foundation and looking forward to how well it will work in the winter if it gets cold.

Until next time,

Ciao! 🙂

A Bit of Shopping

The New Things + First Impression

I did a bit of shopping in last two weeks but they are all random bits so I decided not to do a proper haul post. I will mention them here in pieces though. Let’s start with these two.

Clean & Clear Deep Action Refreshing Gel Cleanser (RO 1.890)

I am almost done with my Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash Pink Grapefruit Facial Cleanser (Click here for my review about it!) and I wanted something to replace it. First I thought to repurchase it but then I saw Clean & Clear one and thought to give it a try. So far it has been amazing. It is gentle, tingles in a good way and leaves behind a clean skin. I have been using it for over a week now and really like it so much that I have forgot to finish my Neutrogena cleanser. #reminder You will hear all about it soon in a few weeks time.

Wella Pro Series Heat & Shine (RO 2.200)*

I haven’t really spotted a heat protector in any stores here so when I saw Wella Heat & Shine it was a must-buy. My hair is in a bad state right now and the hair fall won’t stop. I thought to do as much as I can to protect whatever is left of my once luscious locks. I have tried this spray just once before I blow dried my hair. The result was pretty good. My hair didn’t go rough. They were smooth, soft and had a shine to it that was never there before. Let’s hope the result is consistent. I will do a post as soon as I have formed a solid opinion.

*You can get it for RO 2.050 from Carrefour

Guys, I might be blogging a bit on and off for the next couple of days because I am having a bit of an eye situation here. Nothing serious, they just need a little off time from the laptop and work. Also, Eid is hardly two days away and things will get pretty hectic from ummm right after I click Publish here, ha. Regular posts will resume from Monday 28th September, if I go MIA. 🙂

Much Love! xx

#LongLastingLove ~ New Nail Colors from Essence Cosmetics

#longlastinglove - famtaq.com

I did a huge haul of a mix of things and i am still making up my mind on blogging about it or not but here are two things that I just had to write about because pretty nails, ha.

I didn’t go to Essence Cosmetics counter for a new nail polish in a while now and that’s just so unlike me. I always love picking up vibrant colors from them as their collection never disappoints. Life got just too hectic and I didn’t get much time to spend at the mall hence there hasn’t been an update but I went there a few weeks back and got my hands on these two.

Hot Pink - Lucky - famtaq.com

Now everyone here knows how much I love my blue nails and all that blue jazz but I made a little change this time. I decided to go for a pink shade. *who is this person?* I got Essence the Gel Nail Polish in shade #09 Lucky. It’s a gorgeous hot pink and is so flattering on the nails. The formula as usual has been amazing and one coat makes the nail opaque. I am very happy with this purchase.

Lets Get Lost - famtaq.com

I tried checking out without getting a blue shade but how is that even possible?! I got Essence the Gel Nail Polish in shade #30 Let’s Get Lost – Oh, interesting name. 😀 It is a robin’s egg blue color. The formula for this one is good too. This shade looks a lot like Rimmel Salon Pro Lycra Britpop can be considered as its perfect dupe.

These colors are from their summer collection I believe, I am not sure, but they are hash tagged with Long Lasting Love. You guys need to head out to an Essence counter near you and check their collection because they have come out with a whole new range of colors and all of them are amazing. I have my eyes on the maroon and purple one. 😀

Skincare ~ Marks & Spencer Shower Products

DSC06488

I feel like I haven’t spoken enough about the awesomeness of Marks & Spencer shower products that I bought a while back. Marks & Spencer has a nice little range of skincare products here. They have hand wash, moisturizers, shower foams and scrubs. I bought M&S Nature’s Extract Aloe Vera foam bath with added moisturizer on a whim and haven’t regretted the decision till date. I don’t really know the difference between a shower gel and a foam bath because I found them pretty much the same. Foam bath lathers a lot more I guess.

M&S foam bath comes in a 500ml transparent plastic bottle with a silver cap. The product is colored gel. It lathers well. It has added moisture that leaves the skin feeling soft, extremely silky and smooth. The amount is huge so it will last you a long while even if you use it every day. All the fragrances are very pleasant and lasts a while on the body.

After I bought the Aloe Vera foam bath, I went to M&S again and spotted another foam bath in Water Lily. It’s pink and has the sweetest fragrance ever. It’s my absolute favorite. Ever since I bought this I used the Aloe Vera one rarely.

The next I bought was Nature’s Extract Coconut cream bath with added moisturizer. This is similar to the foam bath too. It’s just creamy in texture and there is more moisture. I am not a fan of coconut fragrance but this one is way too pleasant and makes me want to get a coconut body mist. *this was a hint – more to come in the coming days* 😉

If you’re looking for a high quality, good amount of product and quarter the price of The Body Shop shower gels, I would highly recommend a visit to Marks & Spencer. Their range is fabulous. BTW, I am not against The Body Shop. I love their products but in my opinion their shower gels are a complete waste as their scent doesn’t last at all and they are unreasonably expensive for the amount you get.

Price: RO 2.000 (1.500 in sale)

NOTD ~ Off To Miami by Essence

*Effortlessly gorgeous nails alert!!*

Off to Miami (1)

Off to Miami (2)

I just can’t get enough of Essence it seems. I have bought yet another nail polish from them and this one is a massive favorite. 109 Off to Miami is a peachy salmon color that goes on your nail effortlessly, dries off real quick and last for eons. Honestly. The formal is extremely superb.

I have been reaching out for Off to Miami so much these days. It is just the perfect color to wear in this confused weather where we are not sure whether it is summer, autumn, spring or winter out there or all four of them at once. It suits all skin tones and goes well with neutral colored dresses as well as colorful ones. You don’t need to change your nail color for the evening *woop woop*

I’ve been getting quite a lot of compliments on it and people often ask which nail polish I am wearing. It’s such a fabulous feeling, ha. Essence nail polishes range impresses me yet again. Can’t wait to go back and purchase another gorgeous shade.

What do you think of Essence Nail Polish range? Do you like this color? Do let me know in the comments below! 🙂

NOTD ~ Flashy Pumpkin by Essence

If you live in the Middle East, summer is never really over. While other countries celebrate spring in full swing, we wait on just the tiny ruffle of leaves. It’s not false to say we mostly experience season summer year round. Well it does give us a privilege of wearing summer clothes, accessories and do summer bits like go to the beach for a swim and not bundle up in our sweaters and stay home when we don’t feel like it, ha, and this is when I present a new nail color which goes well with our hot weather.

Flashy Pumpkin by Essence (famtaqblog.wordpress.com) (1)

Flashy Pumpkin (does it ring a bell? :D) by Essence is a bright/neon orange color that goes with about anything and I do mean anything. It even looks amazing with black and grey dresses, what else would one need. I wanted to get it from a while but when I went to purchase it I was dissuaded by a friend but once home I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Hence I had to make another trip to Essence’s counter the very next day.

Flashy Pumpkin by Essence (famtaqblog.wordpress.com) (2)

I have been enjoying this color very much. I love wearing it with anything white. It gives the right pop of color any plain dress or tee-shirt requires. It is such a happy and bright color and I often reach out for it more than I do for Wanna Be Your Sunshine, again from Essence. Another reason why I love Flashy Pumpkin is because of its name as it reminds me of The Slutty Pumpkin from How I Met Your Mother.

Now that Halloween is just a few days away I think I have an idea what I want to dress up as, ha. Flashy Pumpkin, you are going to come very handy this year. *evil laugh*

Have a good day everyone!

Nail Polish ~ Wanna Be Your Sunshine by Essence

Wanna Be Your Sunshine by Essence (famtaqblog.wordpress.com)

Wanna Be Your Sunshine by Essence (famtaqblog.wordpress.com) 2

After buying That’s What I Mint (link here), I was so impressed by the quality of Essence nail polishes that I went back to purchase some more and as 145 Flashy Pumpkin was already on my wishlist (link here) I had to go back anyway. I entered The Sultan Centre Qurum to get only that but ended up buying another bright shade that had me at hello. 😀

137 Wanna Be Your Sunshine is a bright shade of yellow and makes you want to instantly change in to your swim suit and go off to the beach or wear a flowy sundress in white and show off your pretty sunny nails. It is such a happy shade that it lifts your mood too. (Tried and tested, my friend)

It took me about two coats to get a flawless texture and opaque nails. These lasted long too like That’s What I Mint. This is exactly what I love about Essence. They have such pretty nail colors with amazing quality and at such affordable prices. RO 1 for a nail polish is not a bad price especially if you compare it to brands like Rimmel/Revlon that start at RO 3.500 or what we get from exhibitions here (which are considered to be low priced but are not and their quality is super bad too).

I love the packaging too. The bottle is pear shaped and the brush is wide enough to cover your nail in one go. It can also be easily carried in a bag if you are rushing out and don’t have time to paint your nails.

I am very happy I got this color in my nail polish collection.

Which is your favorite sunny nail polish from?

Love

~F xx
