My 2-Steps Destress Routine

The blog was very quiet a few weeks back. If you’re following me on Twitter (username: @famtaqblog) you might have an idea why. And if you’re not then let me just tell you myself. I had actually exhausted myself beyond repair. This is nothing uncommon for me. I do that often.

I have a fascination span of a three year old which means anything new and exciting attracts me instantly, and that’s how I end up getting into doing way many things that humanly possible. The problem is my attention span is that of a gold fish. I get bored very easily with a task and once I am bored with something I cannot complete it unless my interest in it sparks again. This is how I start losing focus and get behind my deadlines and my stress levels shoot up. Let me just add here that I SUCK at handling stress. I would have a complete melt down or in some rare cases I would become superwoman somehow and rescue myself.

I had a dozen of deadlines to complete in November. I did finish them all – in the nick of time – and such superb time management left me burnt out. I couldn’t do anything after that and I knew it was time to take a break from everything and just relax for a while.

I was looking for some stress free options to rejuvenate my system but trust me with me nothing is stress free, not even reading a book, which I came to realize is the only hobby I have, and so I didn’t know where to turn to. I tried to look for a thing that interested me in the past and that’s when two things happened.

Clear Out

I am one of the most cluttered people I know in every category. Be it my room, my bookshelf, my computer or phone, you will always find a multitude of items. From a few years I have got into the habit of letting go of things that serve me no purpose and I must confess – I love a good ol’ clear out.

I am doing pretty well at it right now but I am also doing a good job at accumulating more stuff. It’s all under control for now but somehow I am still not satisfied. I feel like clearing out is something that needs to happen on a regular basis and for someone who collects a lot, I don’t do it that often. Anyhow, the one in November gave me some peace of mind so thumbs up to the process. It always helps.

Headspace

While I was doing my earlier mentioned clear out on the phone I came across an app I download a while back that I liked a lot. I don’t know how many of you know about Headspace but if you don’t, give me the pleasure of introducing it to you.

Headspace is a guided meditating app. It’s available on Play Store and App Store for free but once you’re done with the first ten sessions, you have to pay for the rest. The free sessions are of 10 minutes each where the voiceover ‘Andy’ guides you throughout. I find his voice very calming and hypnotic too lol.

Once done with the free 10 sessions, you are introduced to their subscription which are quite inexpensive and give you access to a variety of categories; Foundation, Health, Relationships, Performance and Headspace Pro. I am linking the website for you to check out. I personally will suggest you to download the app on your mobile and give it a go. Even if you don’t want to subscribe to them you can always make use of those free sessions anytime you want so that’s a plus.

This app has been a superb help in calming my stress levels. It has also made me aware of my breathing in a whole different light. Highly recommending!
