I have been going through a very weird phase from a while where I end up being either disappointed with the books I am reading or getting uninterested within first few chapters. Just to clear things up, I love reading. I am obsessed with reading. I usually read a book from cover to cover. I cannot skimp through the pages at any cost and I always end whatever book I start even if it isn’t good enough. However lately I have been giving up on books or leaving them half way. In such a phase you always want to read more and more books just to get out of the funk. I did too but nothing worked.
A couple of days back I was contacted by Nadia Nader, a new author from Kuwait, who was kind enough to let me read her debut book in return of an honest feedback. I was elated by the opportunity. With no idea of her previous writings or what to expect, I kept my expectations normal. It won’t be fair to say I didn’t know how the book would be from the beginning because as soon as I was done with chapter two I knew it was going to be a fantastic read. No book has been able to get me this excited in a long while – and that does include Adultery by my favorite writer Paulo Coelho which is quite a surprise.
When Vivian’s mother dies in a tragic accident, Vivian’s world is turned upside down. Her life, as she knows it, is over. A new life, full of her mother’s secrets, begins…
Sent away by her father to live with two eccentric aunts on the mysterious Tremaine Estate, Vivian comes to learn that a powerful curse lurks over her family – one that only she may have the power to break. With each day she spends in Misty Hills, Vivian uncovers more unsettling discoveries about the town, her reclusive family, and herself.
Can Vivian let go of every truth she’s ever believed and discover who she really is, before the dark secrets hidden within the supernatural town threaten to consume her and those she loves? Source: Goodreads
The Enchanted Rose is the first book in Misty Hills series. My favorite things about the book were how simple and easy to understand the writing was. If you’ve been following me from a while you would know I am not very interested in authors who like to show off their vocabulary because honestly I hate checking the dictionary after every second line. Next, the story line was interesting and I really couldn’t guess a thing. I am curious how many people would go through the same situation. I thought it will be predictable because com’n how many options do you really have in a YA Paranormal novel. But I was wrong. The twist and the turns were fantastically put together and were extremely fun to discover. Lastly, I am not a big fan of cliff hanger endings but this book’s was amazing. I wasn’t furiously pulling on my hair because I was too busy smirking as it was so unexpected. Loved it. Loved it. Super Loved it. The characters are written well and I cannot wait to see their transformation in the upcoming novels.
I am going to recommend this book to anyone who is going through a dry spell as I was or is looking for a book/series that is going to be so quick to read but gives you so much. I actually want to recommend it to everyone of you because seriously it is worth spending your time reading.
The Enchanted Rose is available on Amazon on Kindle so you can purchase it from there. The second book will be out too within a few months and I must admit it is making to my most anticipated books f 2015 list. Nadia does plan to release it in paperback (hardcover too I guess – not sure about this one) someday, and if that happens I’ll be the first in line to buy it because I honestly wouldn’t mind rereading it. I have already started getting the urge to reread it, ha.
