Happy New Year!!

HAPPY 2016, GUYS!! 😀

I hope everyone had a great start to the new year. I was in bed from 9 PM completing Maktub by Paulo Coelho so I could complete my Goodreads challenge in time. So glad I did or I would have gone bonkers.

Harreh at 12

This was me at 12 AM and I regret nothing. 😛

I spent today with my family. We had Nehari (Pakistani dish) for lunch. My mum is an awesome cook. I have not inherited any of her cooking skills sadly. After lunch we all watched Dilwale. It’s a Bollywood movie starring Shahrukh Khan and Kajol. It was alright. I thought I was over SRK but he looked really cute throughout the movie. Kajol looked pretty. Also, one can never go wrong with their pairing.

After the movie, I came to my room and started sorting, organizing and filing my paperwork. It was long overdue. I have got no further plans for the evening so I am sat here writing this post. I will probably go do more routine things now and maybe bake a cake to have after dinner with family. I hope you all have far more exciting plans for the evening and are having tremendous fun. :)I am really looking forward to how this year is going to be blogging wise. I want it to be awesome.

I am really looking forward to how this year is going to be especially blogging wise. I haven’t made a to-achieve list yet and I will probably make it along the year. I want  2016 to be awesome – for you lot as well. Let’s give it all we have to offer and nail it.

See you guys soon in my next post. 🙂

Lots of love,

~F x

2015 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2015 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 20,000 times in 2015. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 7 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

The Anti-Bucket List

the anti bucket list add.jpg

As my last post for this year, I thought to give The Anti-Bucket List a go. This idea was shared by one of my most favorite bloggers Emma from Girl Lost in the City who picked it up from an article by Lauren Laverne in Glamour Magazine. The idea is that instead of writing a long list of things you want to do next year, take a moment and reflect upon everything you achieved in the current year. Now these don’t have to be super high achievements. Anything that sparked happiness in you or made you proud of yourself over the year can be included.

I believe this is a brilliant idea. I have been blogging for about two years and more now and at the end of the first year (2013) I posted a blog about the main things I did that year. The second year (2014) I posted a bucket list/note to self for 2015. To be very honest, I look upon ‘what I did in 2013’ post more often than the bucket list of 2015. I can’t even seem to remember what all I wrote in that list even after reading it several times. I won’t say it was pointless as I would often read it and check with myself if I followed, at least, some of it. I am also not going to say there won’t be a bucket/note to the self list for 2016 because my love for lists is very strong but for now, let me share what I achieved this year. 🙂

1- I worked full time for six months in an electrical engineering company. How mad is that? I never thought I would ever get a full-time job let alone in an engineering company so this was quite an achievement for me. I had a good experience and I learnt so much. Heck, I even wrote a series on it on the blog – The Office Series – a beginner’s guide. It sounds so funny now. Anyway, this whole experience gave me a very good idea about what it takes to be an actual working woman in the real/practical world and if I really want to continue or get back to it in the future.

2- I got over my fear of talking to people on the phone in a professional/business sense. Previously I wouldn’t even call someone to ask for their email address so I could forward them my CV or inquire about university stuff, etc. This year I did it so much that I feel it’s not that big of a deal and I can get better at it with time.

3- I have been blogging for two years and more now but it was always on and off. This year I tried to be a little more regular and even though the schedule kept changing, I am glad I kept writing.

4- I purchased my blog url famtaq.com 🙂

5- I ate out a lot this year. I tried so many new restaurants, food, desserts and drinks that now I pretty much have a good idea what I like and what I don’t.

6- I have never been a very good shopper but this year I made quite smart purchases and would think before I buy/splurge on stuff.

7- I spent on things I really like. Books, mugs, sweaters, sportswear, bags, shoes and yoga mat. 😀

8- I have somewhat spent a lot this year but the thing I am proud of is that most of it was from my own hard earned money. Before this I would buy stuff by saving up my pocket money or my family would get me thing but this was a totally new and exhilarating experience.

9- I saw Ed Sheeran perform live in Muscat. ❤

10- I had a severe muscle injury but I didn’t give up on wanting and trying staying fit and healthy. This want only makes me look forward to every workout I do and effort I put in to getting back to my normal shape.

11- I didn’t waste time on reading books I was not interested in. Also happy that I tried reading more books that I would normally not and totally fall in love with them. The Miniaturist and Girl with the Pearl Earring are two of them.

12- I avoided watching movies and series I wasn’t interested in.

13- I realized that people who have stuck with you from the very beginning and know you for who you are for real are the ones that matter the most. This does mean I realized the quality of friends is more important than quantity of it. A few awesome ones are all you need in life.

14- After completely giving up and not really wanting to work, I tried to get a part time job and succeed at it. All thanks to one of my very best friends.

15- I spoke about domestic violence awareness amongst the people I know in real life over my personal Instagram account. I feel very strongly about this cause.

16- In the last few months, I gave in to the idea of meeting new people again or people in general. I used to be very social then I don’t know what happened and I stopped and with time I turned into a complete introvert. I am still not very thrilled about the whole concept but seeing how I have met some new people and like a few of them, it makes me feel proud that I am putting myself out there.

17- I read more blogs and followed some amazing new people.

18- I started all-about-books Instagram. Follow me, @BigBooksTinyHeart, if you’re interested and want to be bookish pals. 🙂

19- I got over the idea that just because I have gained weight and am fat now I shouldn’t click pictures of myself anymore.

20- I started saving money. It might not be a lot but it’s a start and I am happy about it.

21- I finally cut my hair short. YAASS!!!!

22- I live in Oman. We hardly get good weather here but when it’s good, it’s awesome with fluffy clouds and rain. Last year I was stuck at work while it was pouring and if you know me in real life you would know how mad I am about rain. I was so very sad and kind of prayed to be able to experience Muscat’s good weather the next time. It happened!! I am so happy about it that I can’t explain it in words. Waking up to fluffy clouds and Forks (Twilight reference) like the weather is my absolute dream. And now it has come true.

~

This was my list. Let me know if you write yours too. I would love to give it a read. 🙂

2015 Favorites~

2015 favs

It’s time for yearly favorites *yay* I don’t do monthly favorites so I had almost forgotten about this year’s favorite post too. So glad I read it over at some other blogs and realized I have enough time to squeeze in a post before 2015 is over.

I believe 2015 went by in a blur and I didn’t get a chance to try out much stuff but when I started looking back at old posts to gather my favorites I was amazed. Damn there was a lot. Without further delay let’s get started.

~

2015 Beauty Favs

~Beauty~

I realize beauty wise I got around to using quite a bunch of stuff. I got to use two different foundations, different eyeliners, lips, mascaras and what not. Below are my favorites.

Liner – I am still stuck on my Revlon ColorStay Liquid Eye Pen in 01 Darkest Black. I’ve had it since 2014 and it’s still going strong for me.

Mascara – Essence Get Big Lashes Volume Curl has got to be the one for me. Perfect effect without crisping the eyelashes, what else does one want?

Foundation – Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 hr Nude Finish Foundation because it saved me through the horrendous summer we had this year. Thank you, Rimmel, I am forever in debt.

Lip Liner – MAC Beet

Lipstick – MAC Ruby Woo

~

2015 Skincare Fav

~Skincare~

I’ve been very bad with the whole skincare department this year. I am just glad I picked up The Body Shop Seaweed Clarifying Night Treatment as it had helped a lot with blemishes.

~

~Fragrance~

Spritz wise Victoria’s Secret – Secret Escape Body Mist has been my bae this year and I doubt I will be falling out of love with this one anytime soon.

~

2015 Books Fav

~Book~

I’ve been failing miserably at completing my goodreads challenge this year but I’ve got a few days in my hand and I hoping I’ll get it done in time. This year there has been just one book that I’ve wanted to reach out again and time again – The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton. I loved it so much. I am linking my review of it so you can read me cry more about it in a detailed post. (CLICK HERE!!) My second favorite was All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven, but I haven’t done a review yet so I was thinking to save it for 2016. Oh well. I am highly recommending these two to everyone I know that includes you too.

~

That’s about it, guys. I will see you in my next post very soon! 🙂

Much Love,

Hair Care

The Deed Has Been Done

Hair (2) - famtaq.comHair (1) - famtaq.com

I GOT MY HAIR CUT YESSSSS!!!!!!

I am a massive short hair fan. There is just something so very attractive about a short bob, boy and pixie cut that attracts me so very much. In February I blogged about how I am going to try take care of my hair so I can cut them short and dye them blue (Click here to read it). Well the taking care part didn’t happen much and my hair fall didn’t stop too. So two weeks ago I was in one of my ‘fuck it’ mood and that’s when I decided I’m cutting my hair short. ‘Fuck it’ is my favorite approach for making ‘rational decisions’.

If you follow me on Instagram (Click here if you’re not!), I posted a picture and you can see they were pretty medium to long length. I never really had long hair while growing up and that’s why I suck at managing them when they grow below my shoulders. Anyway, when I told my hairdresser, who is one hell of a meanie, that I wanted a short bob, I received a look that said ‘NOT HAPPENING’. It took me fifteen minutes of nonstop talking (I don’t do that shit) to convince (read beg) that I really do need it. After a lot of exasperated scowls and tantrums, we came to an agreement that the cut will be short but with a bit of oomph effect to them. This is the end result and I am over the moon right now!! 😀 Short bob with a mix of layers and steps is exactly what I had in mind when I would picture myself. It’s so perfect!!

What do you guys think?

Downton Abbey ~ Season Finale

*some spoilers included*

mast-da-s6-icon-hires

I don’t know if any of you watch Downton Abbey but I do and I absolutely love it. I have seen a few period dramas but nothing has compared to Dowton’s class and tasteful delivery. I have been following it from season one and now that we are done with the finale season I am feeling rather sad. I hate endings, I hate goodbyes. I will miss Downton Abbey so very much I can’t even put it to words.

Sunday’s episode was quite a handful. There was so much going on. Mary was on her full on bitch mode. Edith was on self pity mode. The elders were busy hoping things turn out good for both the girls and Branson, oh sweet Tom Branson, was ever so helpful in trying to maintain the peace of the house. I also love how he played cupid for Mary and Henry.

I thought we wouldn’t see Dowager Countess and miss her wits in the episode but Branson was such a clever man to write to her and ask her to come immediately to the rescue of her ‘heartbroken granddaughters’. Her conversation with Mary will always be a memorable scene. Mary is perhaps the only character who can cry one second and be super strong the next. I idolize her. My most favorite part however was seeing Edith in her office. She looked so happy and at peace. She deserves the best for how much she has suffered.

Downstairs, Barrows was being such a cutie in bed reading a book and his hair covering his forehead. He is just so beautiful. His friendship with Master George is goals. ❤ I also find Mr. Carson and Mrs. Hughes very adorable. The way she kissed him on the cheek was too cute!!

I went a little crazy last week when I watched the seventh episode of season six and was going impatient because one week is a long time for a new episode!! I wanted more of Downton Abbey and decided to rewatch season one and two. And I did. Ah, I loved seeing all the different changes the show has gone through over the years. The house had a massive staff in the start and I realized how much they have downsized. I had almost forgotten the constant rivalry between Mary and Edith. The first season was full of it. It was such a treat to see Lady Cybil. I think of her every time I see Tom. But the center of attention was of course Mathew. Boy was it amazing to see his gorgeous face again and the love story between Mary and him. It made me miss him a lot.

mary-matthew-downton

In Sunday’s episode Mary visits Mathew’s grave. It was such an emotional scene.

‘I don’t have to tell you why I am here. Either you know everything or you’re not hearing me now. The truth is… I love him! I believe we are right together. But I so very much want to feel that you’re happier for me… (sobs) as I’d be happy for you, my darling. Remember however much I love him I will always love you.’

-Mary Crawley

I cried so much. I think some love stories remain with us forever. For me both of Mary’s will.

Now all I want is Mr. Mosley and Baxter to get married – It’s about time really – and for Anna and Mr. Bates to have their baby all healthy and be happy. This Christmas Special better be the bomb. As much as I am dreading the final goodbye, I am also looking forward to the episode.

I ❤ Autumn

Copy of Autumn

The downside of living in a desert country is that you will only get two seasons: very hot summer and mild summer. For some people this might be ideal but for me not really. I like all the four seasons and there is nothing more I like than to daydream about them when most of the world is enjoying them and I am not.

Autumn is my favorite among the four and the amount of autumnal vibes coming my way through social media this month made me want to write a huge post on all the things I love about this gorgeous season. ❤

Changing Colors

Changing Colors

This is my most favorite part of autumn. I love how the trees change colors from green to yellow and orange. I love how the roads and parks are filled with dried up leaves and the crunchy sound they make when a person walks on them. Sunsets become even more beautiful than usual with the sky displaying shades of deep blue, pink, purple and violet and a trip to the beach is always an amazing idea.

~

Outdoors

Outdoors

I love it when summer turns to autumn and instead of harsh heat we are welcomed by a cool breeze in the afternoon and evening. For someone who works out this is such a great time to leave the gym or indoors for a while and do their cardio outside. I love walking in huge parks that are not stripped off most of their nature. I love it when we can walk to places that are not very far to get some errands done. I just generally like the whole idea of spending more time out in the nature when the weather is being such a babe.

Hot Beverages

After summer and all the cold beverages encircling that season, I love how the choices go from cold coffee/tea and frappuccino to latte, mocha, macchiato, black and green tea. I love drinks so I am always happy when there is a change in that section. I also love how Starbucks comes out autumn inspired drinks like ‘Pumpkin Spice Latte’ and if you’re lucky enough you get autumn themed cups to go with them.

~

Trends

Trends

I love how the lip colors get berry colored bolder and eye lashes become intense than usual. The copper eyelids are another of my favorite thing about this season. Fashion wise I love how everything starts getting darker. Maroon and navy blue colors are such hits. I love those stunning slouchy sweaters and blanket-y yet stylish scarves people start wrapping around them. I also like how everyone starts wearing super cool boots and sneakers.

Halloween

I love it how with the start of autumn everyone gets excited for Halloween for real and planning their getups. I like it how YouTube gets filled up with videos and tutorials of new ideas every day. I love the mad obsession with pumpkins too and lovely shots people post on their Instagram.

Lights

lush bath bomb

All the Other Things

These are things that I haven’t experienced yet but love them still. I love how everyone starts talking about and buying new fall inspired candles and fairy lights and lanterns become a part of home décor. I love it when people talk about Lush Bath bombs or put up picture of the lovely effect of them in their tubs.

~

This was my mini love post for autumn. I hope you guys liked it. Now, why don’t you guys tell me what’s your three most favorite things about this lovely season? Let me know in the comments below! 🙂

Moments

Moments – September ’15

I have said this once before that I am not a very Monthly Favorites kind of a girl. I don’t use anything enough to form an opinion in a month. But I’ve always had a thing for documenting my life and thoughts. I find this idea so amazing because I love looking back at memories and seeing how far I have come or what I was like before and if I have changed as a person or not. I have been thinking about it from so long and have finally decided to start a new category called ‘Moments’. I plan to write a post a month about the previous one and talk about anything and everything I believe I would want to commit to my memory or look back at after a while. This post is the first installment of Moments series. I don’t know if you guys will like it but I hope you do! 🙂

Wanderlust

I had an intense desire for wanderlust in September. I just wanted to grab a bag, pack some clothes and go away for a long while to somewhere very far. Be around the beach, get lost in the wilderness, be in the rain, sleep under the sky filled with stars, just be near nature as much as possible and live a simple life. Then I looked at my bank balance realizing I can’t afford an air ticket and all the pending work I had and asked my heart to shut up! One day I will travel the world without any restrictions and do as I please.

~

---Blessed_Beyond_Belief_by_Bob_Ewing

Last week of August and start of September were very busy days for me. I had so many errands to run and some urgent shopping to do. When I got home after I was done getting all the things I wanted and sat down ticking them off my wish list I was overwhelmed with emotions. I had all the stuff I ever wanted, even things I wrote down one or two years back when I thought I will never be able to get any of them. I felt so blessed that I was living a comfortable life, could get all the material things, had a roof over my head and dine out at good places. I thanked the Lord so much. It was my favorite moment of September.

~

Coca Cola Glass

I started having a little obsession with a glass in September. I am a well known mug lover and collecting them is my hobby. I am not that fussy about glasses but one day mum was rummaging through her kitchen cabinets and found some Coca Cola glasses merchandise which came with McDonald’s value meal a while back. I set eyes on them and that was it. I called dibs on all three. I have been using just one for now and I love it. It is green, has ripples and the Coca Cola logo seems super cool on it. I am not a fan of fizzy drinks but this glass is the cutest ever.

~

FRIENDSbw

Now that I am not working and have a lot of spare time on my hand I thought why not rewatch Friends TV series from the very start. I didn’t realize I was signing up for the worst emotional trauma ever because it was 11 years ago when I finished this series and I hardly remember anything about it except season 9 and 10. I thought rewatching it wouldn’t hurt but damn did my feels box explode so freaking much.

I loved everything about the show. From ‘It’s always been you, Rach’ to ‘because you are Rachel & Ross’, to Mona & Chandler and that one drunken night in London, to Joey’s love for food, kiddish mind, crazy acting stints, being always there for his friends and falling in love with that one girl, to Phoebe’s craziness, smelly cat, David who moved to Minsk and that one special guy, I loved it all. It was all so damn perfect.

The night I finished it I had no idea what to do with my life anymore and I was so upset so I watched all their interviews and the next night I watched the first episode of season 1 again. I don’t think I will ever get over Friends now. I feel you guys who keep crying about this show and ask for a reunion. We need couple more seasons, yeah, and I don’t mind if they have aged. We all still love them madly!!

The fact that I have mastered Chandler’s expressions and his laugh is a bit alarming though because I don’t know how to loose it now. xD

~

Halloween 2013

I think when its September there isn’t much on a person’s mind than Halloween or at least that’s the case with me. I love Halloween because you get to dress up and all that, ha. I dressed up as Queen of The Seelie Court of New York from The Mortal Instruments in 2013 and that was so much fun. I couldn’t do anything last year which was really sad so I am looking forward to this year’s Halloween. 🙂

Eid Mubarak =D

Processed with VSCOcam with a5 preset

Eid Mubarak, guys!!!! 😀

I hope whoever is celebrating it has a wonderful time and get the best meat dishes!! 😀

Yesterday was the first day of Eid here in Muscat. I did pretty much nothing. I was home and stayed in bed, had some delicious Pulao (Pakistani rice dish), and ended the day by watching a little Friends and getting some McDonald’s Classic Chicken Burger + Mcflurry Oreo because no festivity is complete without it. I don’t plan to do anything today as well so I will just repeat whatever I did yesterday lol.

Hope you guys have far more exciting Eid plans than I did, hehe!

Have fun ya’ll!!

PS. Regular posts starts from Monday so do make sure to come back! 🙂

Fragrance

The Love-At-First-Sniff Kind of Fragrance~

Victoria’s Secret does an amazing job when it comes to fragrances. Their collection is always filled with girly floral and fruity smells that are both sweet and sexy. I love browsing through VS aisles and smelling all of them. My favorite part however is purchasing them of course. 😉

I tend to get obsessed with a certain fragrance from time to time. The most recent one is Victoria Secret’s Secret Escape. I have categorized it as love-at-first-sniff kind. It has Freesia and Guava flower undertones and has the sweetest smell. It also has Aloe Vera and chamomile that helps keeps the skin smooth and soft. I am absolutely in love with it and this is all I have been spritzing from a couple of months now so much that I am almost done with this bottle. I will definitely be repurchasing it because it is one fragrance I will miss the most on my dresser if I don’t get it soon.

What is your favorite fragrance from Victoria’s Secret or in general? Let me know in the comments below! 🙂
