HAUL ~ The Body Shop Haul Review

Copy (2) of 20140517_131021

Copy of 20140517_131603

I did a The Body Shop Haul post a few months back that was in two parts (The Body Shop Haul – Part 1/2 & The Body Shop Haul – Part 2/2) and had my initial reaction to the products. I am writing a full review on those products now.

1- Peppermint Cooling Foot Lotion

Initially I liked this product and for the first few days it kept my feet cool for quite some hours but later it used to stay cool for first half hour or less and then my feet will be just smooth. I guess in the start my feet were just hungry to get something to nourish them. My heels are always on fire kind of a thing and I was really hoping this product is its fix but it wasn’t, though I did find something that helped. 😀

2- Seaweed Clarifying Toner

My reaction hasn’t changed for this toner. It is really good. It goes on the skin smoothly, sinks in quickly and you can’t even feel it on your skin unless you relate it to the tingling feeling you get when you apply it. It smells so good. I totally love this toner and apply it once I remove my makeup, before I apply my The Body Shop Vitamin E Overnight Serum-in-Oil and after I wash my face after a long day.

3- Strawberry Body Butter

Not only has this product proven to be amazing on the body but also on my feet. Yes, this is the product keeping my feet cool. You need to give it some time to sink in first but once it does it keeps your feet cool quite a long time.

4- White Musk Shower Gel

I didn’t like White Musk’s smell at first but I have started liking it a lot now. It’s not your typical female scent. It is quite masculine and perfect for tomboyish girls. Though the smell does not last very long of these shower gels but they are good products to use as they leave your washroom smelling good, ha.

5- Japanese Cherry Blossom Shower Gel

This has got to be my most favorite smell ever from The Body Shop. It’s just so amazing and even though I have a very short span of attraction to products this one has passed the test of time for me. I love using this in my pamper routine and after a hard workout. I really want to know if any of you love this smell as much as I do.

6- Japanese Cherry Blossom Body Lotion

I bought it because of the smell only and this mini bottle stays in my handbag now. It’s not creamy but very liquidy. It smells amazing but doesn’t leave your hand very moisturized which is a negative for me. I wash my hands too often due to which they become very dry and so I prefer using hand creams that are really hydrating.

7- Cocoa Butter Lip Care Stick

I have never liked the idea of a lip balm but this has totally changed my opinion on them and now I see myself stocking up on as many different lip balms as I can from every store. This is a very cool thing to apply to your lips before you use your lipstick. It keeps your lips hydrated under it. It lasts really long and is my companion in office on my no makeup days. Plus winter is coming and I cannot recommend you a better product. It smells and tastes (yes!) amazing and lasts a very long time. Though don’t go overboard with it by layering it too much because it tends to go greasy that way. One or two layer will do.

Do let me know if you’ve tried any of the above products and how was your experience with them.

Please don’t be a silent reader and leave a comment or two if like/dislike what you read.

Have a good day, guys! 🙂

BOOK REVIEW ~ Divergent Series by Veronica Roth

I had heard so much about Divergent last year that I just had to go and get my own copies. Now when I start a series I make sure I have all the parts with me because I hate pauses, especially if it is something that has been hyped about and the spoilers are everywhere.

So I stopped logging in to goodreads, liking any Instagram pages and searching it on Tumblr, and sat patiently waiting for my books to arrive. Once they did, I fell in love with the covers and my excitement level was higher than the sky. I painted my nails the same color as the covers, what more proof could there be?

…and then I read the books…

The trilogy felt like The Hunger Games because of its dystopian theme but it was quite different. The first book, Divergent, was better than the other two in the series. It was written in a way that gave us complete understanding of the community Beatrice aka Tris lived in and how her world worked. She felt like a very promising character in the first book and I was so excited to read about all awesome stuff she would get into. Then we were introduced to Four and I would say I started having a huge crush on him. His strong personality, his one-step-ahead-of-others mindset, and his control over himself and others had me whooshing for him. I liked Tris and Four’s chemistry and how they explore each other’s personality. The book did bug me a little because I wasn’t sure if there will be anything more in it than just the competition. Things trigged in the last few pages and I was glad I had the second book with me. I found Divergent okay and didn’t really wanted to continue but just because I had the books and obviously I can’t give up on reading a series that easily, I continued.

Insurgent was so boring I contemplated leaving it after reading the first few chapters. I managed somehow and read the book but it made no real sense to me. I found it pointless and dragging. I honestly don’t even remember what was in it other than the really huge stuff which wasn’t as huge as Tris made it seem. I disliked her character from this book and the only parts I used to look forward were the ones that included things about Four. I think his strong persona is the reason I kept going on even though I was bored to death by Insurgent. He kept me steady (:

…and then I read Allegiant…

Allegiant was a torture. Written from both Tris and Four’s point of view, I was expecting so much from it because of Four. I was dying to read how brave his thoughts were and how he was able to manage all. Allegiant ruined Four for me… it made him look like a selfish, attention seeking cry baby. I simply disliked reading Allegiant more than Insurgent. The only parts that were likeable were the last few pages after the ‘climax’. And the climax, please don’t get me started on it. Killing one of the main leads was a very bad move. It was like a move you would pull when you know you have written something so bad that the only way readers are going to appreciate your work is if you get sympathy points. I was furious. Okay, I would admit I fell for it in the beginning but after a few hours I realized what actually happened – really bad move.

I honestly didn’t want to do a review on this series because the last thing I wanted was to write bad about someone’s hard work but this topic kept coming up again and again and I finally thought its time I get over with it.

If you have read Divergent series and liked it, do let me know in the comments below everything you liked about it. I would love to change to change my opinion about it and see it from a different point of view.

Until next time,

REVIEW ~ The Body Shop Tea Tree BB Cream

The Body Shop Tea Tree BB Cream

Ever since trying out Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream and being disappointed by the limited shades they had, I was in search of a BB cream that would go with my complexion. I discovered The Body Shop Tea Tree BB Cream on their website. Before I could buy it, my sister-in-law did and hence I got a chance of testing it out before I bought my own tube.

The Body Shop Tea Tree BB Cream comes in a 40ml upside down tube. The packaging is extremely cute with the standard tea tree green and whatever shade you buy the cap is in that color. It is also extremely travel friendly.

It claims to

• Cover your blemishes and any other imperfections

• Shine-free formula

• Natural looking coverage

I must admit it does exactly that. Working as a semi-foundation, it covers up your blemish with just a tiny bit of the product and leaves a matted look to your skin while keeping it hydrated. It spreads well and may seem a little greasy in the start, especially when you are taking it out from the tube and can see a little oil coming out too, but the moment you apply it, it goes on smoothly without any oily feeling. For people like me who start flinching and cringing at the feel of anything greasy, this might seem like such a product but it isn’t. Just give it 3-5 minutes to settle in and you will see it for yourself. It smells a little funny in the beginning but you will get over it as soon as you see how well it works.

It enhances your complexion immediately and I wouldn’t say it looks very natural but it looks flawless enough for you to not use a foundation after it for further cover. It can be build up as well but I would recommend against it because it might make your complexion not-at-all-natural. If you still need some mental satisfaction like I do sometimes, just pop on your concealer to problem areas and you will be good to go.

What I love about this product is its staying power. It lasts for half a day and still doesn’t look unsettling which is a bonus for someone like me who doesn’t bother with a touch up or two (yet). It is also my go-to product on days when I don’t want to put on any makeup but have a flawless face still. I usually apply a moisturizer before applying it on but sometimes when my memory fails me, I put it without the moisturizer. It still feels good so moisturizer is not a compulsory step. I wrote a mini routine using it and if you are interested in reading about it CLICK HERE.

The Body Shop Tea Tree BB Cream comes in three shades; 01 for fair skin, 02 for medium and 03 for darker. I have tried it in color 01 and am satisfied enough to go and buy my own tube.

Have you tried The Body Shop Tea Tree BB Cream too? How was your experience? Let me know in the comments below! 🙂

HAIR CARE ~ L’Oreal Elvive Total Repair Hair Mask with Serum Review

L'Oreal Elvive Hair Mask 1

L'Oreal Elvive Hair Mask 2

When I began my search for a drugstore hair mask I had no idea what to go for because I had never tried one before. I used to prepare a homemade mask once a year and that’s about as much treatment and care my hair would get. With time my hair dried up and became rough, thin as straw and started falling out of my head like autumn leaves from a tree. All because I used heat equipments on it without applying any heat protector and never bothered to treat it right. Now to make amends I am trying to take care of it as much as I can.

I was on YouTube one day and that’s when Dove’s ad popped up. I made my mind to buy Dove Intense Repair Hair Mask but then my eyes fell on L’Oreal Elvive Total Repair Hair Mask with Serum. I had previously used L’Oreal Elvive Total Repair Shampoo and Condition and liked it so I thought why not give their mask a try.

Claim: 1) Stronger 2) Smoother 3) Shinier 4) Thicker 5) Repaired ends

Packaging: It comes in an opaque white pot with a red and white lid that contains 300 ml of the product. It is leaner in the bottom which makes it easy to grab. The lid has a lock type mechanism. First there is the normal closing and then a little push and it’s secured completely. You can hear a thud when that’s done. Perfect. Easy to handle when in the shower.

Product: The texture is that of a conditioner; creamy. It’s white in color and smells heavenly. For some reason I always think of vanilla cupcakes when I smell L’Oreal Elvive Total Repair range. Is it just me or do you smell the same?

Usage: Wash your hair with your regular shampoo and conditioner (not a leave in conditioner because you will be washing your hair again after the mask). Then towel dry your hair. Your hair should be damp and not very dry. Then take the hair mask and apply it all over the length of your hair avoiding your roots and focusing on your tips. Leave it in for 2-3 minutes and after that wash your hair.

How I Use It: I am too lazy for a conditioner so I totally skip that part. I wash my hair with my regular shampoo i.e. Pantene Classic Care. I towel dry my hair then and apply the mask. I leave the mask in for about 2-3 minutes and then rinse off. Now it takes some time to come off so I put my head under the tap for about 3-4 minutes till I am not sure it’s all out. It will give a very silky sensation and you might even think it’s still in your hair even after 4 minutes but it’s not. STOP WASTING WATER!!! Kidding.

Once that’s done, I towel dry my hair.

Result and Reaction: It left my hair smooth, silky and soft after the first wash itself!! I was ecstatic!! I couldn’t believe my own touch and asked my mum. It was real. The result was real!! 😀

1- Can be used instead of a conditioner

2- It has serum in it (what more can you ask for really?)

3- Almost always works. I always get a last minute notification of any important gathering I have to be a part of and I have already mentioned the state of my hair in the first paragraph. I don’t always get time to pep my hair for an occasion so I usually just pop in the shower and use this miracle product in my hair and voila I am good to go.

4- You don’t need a lot of it. I have long hair now (how I don’t understand. Must.Cut.Soon.) and I have hardly used more than two coin sized amount of it in a wash.

1- The first week I was testing it I shampooed my hair thrice and used it after every wash. First two washes went good but in the third one I felt it weighed my hair down. I think it might be because I took a little more product than my hair required. This was the only instance when my hair felt like that. Every other time it has been perfect.

2- Contains Salicylate so beware! For anybody who has no idea what that is please CLICK HERE! (Must Read)

End Result: While it does leave my hair smooth, silky and soft after every wash, it did not make my hair strong, thick or help with the hair fall. It did not even brighten them up. They become glossy when I use the mask but if I don’t use it for even a single wash my hair goes back to its damaged state. I would say it’s a good product if you are into instant gratification but I doubt there will be any long lasting effect of it. It isn’t what I was looking for but I might just repurchase it for its instant results for my 10 minutes notification gatherings, and in the meantime I will look into some other commercial/homemade hair masks.

What hair mask do you prefer?

Catch-up Posts

Hi Guyss!

Lately #5

This week has been quite meh for me. I have trouble sleeping and at one point I was convinced I am insomniac but that really isn’t the case. My internal clock is messed up because I am having a very hard time trying to go back to normal sleeping pattern – getting up in the morning and sleeping at night. Last week it was exactly the opposite and this week I have been sleeping from noon till late in the evening and an hour and a half nap around 1:45am. The first time I slept around 1:45 I was so happy convinced that now my routine is back on track. After I walk up at 4 I went back to sleep at 11 and got up at 7pm. My sleeping pattern hinders me from blogging or doing anything at all. Life is so meh right now.

Maybelline Eyeliner

1- Testing Testing

I am trying to complete my basic makeup set and have been on a lookout for eyeliner that sticks for more than half an hour on my oily lids and so far I have found none. So when I recently got a chance to try Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner I was pretty excited. I really wanted it to work for me. I did like the formula and how easy it is to apply but I am not sure if I want to get it because it didn’t have the kind of staying power I wanted. I guess my skin is just too oily.

2- Obsession

Featured in my recent The Body Shop Wish list, I am so happy to announce yes I have The Body Shop Wild Rose Hand Cream in my possession now. It has such a divine smell I feel like I am floating around in a water pool with rose petals. I was afraid to use it because I still haven’t clicked a good picture of it but I couldn’t wait any longer and tried it. Oh, so heavenly. ❤ started working on my wish list already, haven’t I? 😉

3- Social Media

So, I joined Facebook recently to set up my blog’s page. Yes, I did it finally. I was reluctant because I don’t use Facebook anymore but following Lily and Anna’s advice I need to create a social presence of my blog. 🙂

Reading Teddy

4- Photography

A friend of mine is into photography and has participated in a competition where they get a theme for everyday and have to post accordingly. A few days back it was teddy bear so she came over and we were coming up with ideas and this was the end result. I clicked this one.

Confessions Series by Louise Rozett

5- Reading

Confessions series by Louise Rozett is what I have been obsessing over from three days. There are two books in the series for now; Confessions of an Angry Girl (Confessions #1) and Confessions of an Almost-Girlfriend. These books are great for light reading. I’ll do a review soon. 🙂

6- Music

Yessss!!! One Direction finally came out with a new single ‘Fireproof’ and it is totally nice and soothing to listen to. I have named it Zayn’s Vocal Appreciation Song because his voice is so prominent in it and so darn perfect that I want to hug him and tell him he is the cutest kid I know. Too much love for this guy. And no we are not forgetting Louis. His part is the best. ❤

This week hasn’t been much exciting or remotely amusing and I do hope the coming week is. Hope you all are having a great weekend! 🙂

See you guys later!

REVIEW ~ Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash Pink Grapefruit Facial Cleanser

*This review is for anyone who prefers liquid cleansers over milk ones*

A few days back I did a review on Olay Gentle Cleanser Softening Milk. I had been using Olay’s cleanser for quite a while and I was almost done with the bottle was quite adamant on repurchasing it but then I thought why not try something new and different. Now I’ve had my eyes on Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit Facial Cleanser for quite a while so I popped into the store one day and bought it. *Best.Decision.Ever.*

I had been using it regularly ever since and trying it in all sorts of situations; bad skin bad, oily-as-eff face day, and on days when I have very less or too much makeup on. I love to experiment a lot with the products I buy. This cleanser aced in every situation. Let me start with it bit by bit.

Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit Facial Cleanser comes in a 177 ml see-through plastic bottle with a white pump. The cleanser is pink in color and is of lose consistency. The smell – OH MY GOD – is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!! I didn’t smell it in the store because I was in a rush but once home that’s the first thing I did and after that I couldn’t stop uncapping the bottle n sniffing it a gazillion times. It is such a fruity smell, a very pleasant one that you would want to use this cleanser regularly too. I know what a slacker I am when it comes to cleansing on a no makeup day or when I am tired but I found myself reaching for it willingly every day.

This cleanser is very good at doing its job as well. When you are having an oily skin day it will remove all impurities from your face in a jiffy, literally. It is very good with breaking makeup too on your face. Just one wash and all you makeup will be removed. You will think that maybe you need quite a lot of it but that’s not the case. Just one pump is enough for your face as well as neck. It is liquid which makes it very easy to spread out. You can add a little water to it or you can use it without adding water. Massage it in and after a few minutes wash it off and voila your skin is as clean as a whistle. You wouldn’t need another wash.

I believe it is such a good quality liquid cleanser at a drugstore price that even if you have to buy it after a month or two you wouldn’t mind. I will have a very hard time in picking another cleanser for a while because I am extremely in love with this one.

This review has been posted for a dear friend, S, who isn’t a fan of milk cleansers and find them greasy. I hope you like Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash Pink Grapefruit Facial Cleanser instead. 🙂

Have you tried Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit Facial Cleanser? Which cleanser do you prefer?

BOOK REVIEW ~ The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.

But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway: a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them both, this is a game in which only one can be left standing. Despite the high stakes, Celia and Marco soon tumble headfirst into love, setting off a domino effect of dangerous consequences, and leaving the lives of everyone, from the performers to the patrons, hanging in the balance.  Source: Goodreads

Some times when I read a book it takes me quite some time to form a solid judgment of it. As you all may already know I often buy/read books because of their cover. The Night Circus drew me in that way and my first impression of the book was quite negative.

I started reading The Night Circus ebook when I shifted to my new house and all my real books were packed away in a carton I couldn’t find at that time. I liked the first chapter and thought yes I am in for a Now You See Me (movie) kind of a ride. I was expecting a book filled with amazing magic tricks and a neck to neck competitions between two magicians who are going to burn the world down to win. Alas, that wasn’t the case. What I didn’t expect was it being a love story and I really didn’t get it until I was done with the book and it had been more than a week.

I didn’t like the book at all when I finished it. I actually pushed myself to complete the book. I had no curiosity related it and found it very dull. A competition that expanded with no fixed deadline, two magicians who had no idea what they were doing because their mentors were a-holes, a jealous lover, a crazy circus and its owner, and such different exhibitors. I actually liked the characters a lot because of their descriptions other than Marco and Celia. I loved the Murray twins and Bailey the most. Their story was the only part that kept me going on or I would have given up on the book way before because there wasn’t much magic going on, just a silly competition that really didn’t make much sense.

Then one day I sat pondering over the book and realized it wasn’t a book based on two magicians’ feud but a love story between them. How all their different illusions and creations represented their love and care for each other. How a room Marco made was actually meant for Celia to have as her own when she isn’t feeling okay and has no one to share her feelings with.

Oh the realization struck me hard and I actually felt different emotions surrounding me. Being bound to someone and calling it forbidden love, loneliness, sadness, helplessness and not knowing how your circumstances will impact your life.

I would just say don’t expect it be a book filled with magic tricks and take it as a love story if you’re going to read it. That’s how you will understand the essence of this book. At first I was so annoyed by the book I didn’t bother rating it but once I understood its deep meaning I found it okay enough.

Rating: 2.5/5

Have you read The Night Circus? What was your impression of it?

Lately #4

1- Obsession

Mr. Benedict Cumberbatch. This man, this effing man, is ruining my life. He is beyond any definition of perfect and I am spending my days daydreaming about him, watching and re-watching his interviews/series/movies, and drooling over his pictures, voice and mannerism.

I watched Sherlock thinking it will be an okay series and boy was I wrong. It is so well written and carried out. The dialogues, the acting, and the direction – everything is brilliant. Benedict has played Sherlock so well that I doubt I will ever be able to picture anyone else as Sherlock anymore (sorry RDJ!!!) I have watched this series so many times now that I can start a role play with you right now right here. Benedict is to be blamed for that and I must admit – I am Sherlocked and Cumberbatched ❤

2 – Shop Till You’re Broke – My Motto

People are impulsive shoppers, I on the other hand am an aggressive shopper 😀 Too much brand loyalty towards H&M though. When I mentioned in my earlier ‘Lately’ post that I have lost count of how many times I have been to H&M lately, I did mean it. BTW, this is four months of shopping combined.

M&S Guilt Free Snacking Fail

3- Guilt Free Snacking Fail

At least once in a day I get a health conscious attack and I try to eat something healthy. I was at Marks and Spencer when I spotted this pretty box of Fruity Popcorn Bars that has bars made of apricots, cranberries and popcorn and each bar contains 95 calories. I bought them, gave them a try and there were four in the pack and I still have three left. Guilt free snacking fail.

4- Quality Time

For those of you who don’t know, my dad recently got a fracture in his femur and can’t really walk. He is under treatment and will start walking soon but for now he is home bound. He loves old movies so to cheer him up these days I’ve been watching some Bollywood classics with him and I must say I am having so much fun and spending some quality time with dad which I never get a chance to do. *habby!!*

5- Catch Up @ Costa

No matter how much I dislike Costa, if I am asked for coffee there I would say yes (though not next time). My brother, his girl and I met up for a quick coffee. Costa has just launched some new drinks and had a scratch and win offer. We ordered three Belgian Chocolate Creamy Coolers, two triple chocolate muffins, a chocolate wrap and a chicken Panini. The Creamy Cooler wasn’t really good. I was expecting something delicious but it was just too sweet for any of our liking. I got espresso shots added in mine to make it drinkable. Chocolate wrap and Panini were alright but looked a little stale and as always the muffins were great. I like Costa’s customer service though. They have a friendly staff.

6- Missing

I love Jim Parsons and his portrayal of Sheldon Cooper. I’ve been missing Sheldon so much from past few weeks that I really need him to come back to the tube right now. I hate season breaks. They make me miss people who do not exist in real life. #FanGirlProblems

Have a good weekend y’all!

Thoughts & Reflections

THOUGHTS ~ Staying Strong 365 Days a Week Book by Demi Lovato & Mantra Magic

I recently started reading Staying Strong 365 days a year by Demi Lovato. My friend Haya’s younger sister Sarah posted a picture of one of the pages from the book which I liked and it also got me curious. I asked her if the book was any good because I have recently read so many below average books judging by a quote thinking they would make an amazing read and none of them did. -_- Sarah replied saying it’s for people who feel insecure, depressed, suicidal and are having a tough time coping with their lives.

I’ve read a few pages and so far liking it. It has some great advises for people of all ages as I do believe insecurity, depression and suicidal thoughts can come to anyone at any age. The first page itself made me like it because it talks about making it your goal of having a mantra of your own that helps you think clear and motivates you every day.

I started blogging last year but it wasn’t until now that I took it seriously. I guess it was a month or two back when I was reminiscing about previous years and thinking how naïve I was. I have this thing where I tend to compromise on myself just to see someone else happy. I made up my mind that it needs to stop because there were multiple occasions when I put myself down and let someone else shine. This usually happened when I believed that I didn’t deserve good things in life and other people did. I do know it is not wrong to be there for someone or help people out but it is wrong if you are not okay and are doing it just because you can’t see someone else upset.

I came up with ‘Love yourself – often and enough’ as a reminder to let myself know that I need to love other people alright but I don’t need to stop loving myself in the process. You must be a priority in your life or no one else will make you a priority in theirs. That’s something I’ve learned after wasting so much time on so many people who indirectly showed me that I didn’t love or respect myself enough for them to treat me with love and respect in return.

I now say this to myself in situations when I know I am slipping away into the hopeless / sadness / depression zone. I keep saying it till I don’t start feeling okay. I often add it at the end of my blogs because I do believe we forget to love ourselves with all the high expectations and goals we set for ourselves to achieve. We get busy in them and in process forget that there is lil old us who need some love and attention too by our own self.

I was very happy to read that Demi included such a small but vital advice in her book. We all need a mantra that motivates and inspires us every day.

Do you have a mantra of your own? Please do share. It’s always good to inspire positivity.

Until next time,

Love yourself – often and enough! 🙂
