I don’t know if any of you watch Downton Abbey but I do and I absolutely love it. I have seen a few period dramas but nothing has compared to Dowton’s class and tasteful delivery. I have been following it from season one and now that we are done with the finale season I am feeling rather sad. I hate endings, I hate goodbyes. I will miss Downton Abbey so very much I can’t even put it to words.
Sunday’s episode was quite a handful. There was so much going on. Mary was on her full on bitch mode. Edith was on self pity mode. The elders were busy hoping things turn out good for both the girls and Branson, oh sweet Tom Branson, was ever so helpful in trying to maintain the peace of the house. I also love how he played cupid for Mary and Henry.
I thought we wouldn’t see Dowager Countess and miss her wits in the episode but Branson was such a clever man to write to her and ask her to come immediately to the rescue of her ‘heartbroken granddaughters’. Her conversation with Mary will always be a memorable scene. Mary is perhaps the only character who can cry one second and be super strong the next. I idolize her. My most favorite part however was seeing Edith in her office. She looked so happy and at peace. She deserves the best for how much she has suffered.
Downstairs, Barrows was being such a cutie in bed reading a book and his hair covering his forehead. He is just so beautiful. His friendship with Master George is goals. ❤ I also find Mr. Carson and Mrs. Hughes very adorable. The way she kissed him on the cheek was too cute!!
I went a little crazy last week when I watched the seventh episode of season six and was going impatient because one week is a long time for a new episode!! I wanted more of Downton Abbey and decided to rewatch season one and two. And I did. Ah, I loved seeing all the different changes the show has gone through over the years. The house had a massive staff in the start and I realized how much they have downsized. I had almost forgotten the constant rivalry between Mary and Edith. The first season was full of it. It was such a treat to see Lady Cybil. I think of her every time I see Tom. But the center of attention was of course Mathew. Boy was it amazing to see his gorgeous face again and the love story between Mary and him. It made me miss him a lot.
In Sunday’s episode Mary visits Mathew’s grave. It was such an emotional scene.
‘I don’t have to tell you why I am here. Either you know everything or you’re not hearing me now. The truth is… I love him! I believe we are right together. But I so very much want to feel that you’re happier for me… (sobs) as I’d be happy for you, my darling. Remember however much I love him I will always love you.’
I cried so much. I think some love stories remain with us forever. For me both of Mary’s will.
Now all I want is Mr. Mosley and Baxter to get married – It’s about time really – and for Anna and Mr. Bates to have their baby all healthy and be happy. This Christmas Special better be the bomb. As much as I am dreading the final goodbye, I am also looking forward to the episode.
